Carter – Shirley Ann Carter, age 72, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on February 24, 2023.  She was born on August 28, 1950, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Julian Theodore Thornton and Lauterine Parker Thornton.  Shirley was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida and was proud to call it home.  Some of Shirley's hobbies included thrift store and garage sale shopping, collecting clown figurines, and listening to old county music such as Conway Twitty, Hank Williams,Celebration  and Loretta Lynn.  She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to their family BBQ's.  Those were some of Shirley's happiest times because she was surrounded by her favorite people and favorite food.  Shirley also dearly loved her dog, Lilly. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley leaves behind her children, Rusty (Robin) O'Quinn of Hilliard, FL, Vicki Hopper of Jacksonville, FL, Mike (Jessica) Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Kenneth Thornton of Olustee, FL, Arthur "Hoppy" Thornton of Jacksonville, FL, Priscilla Dynesius of Jacksonville, FL; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Nassau Funeral Home with Greg O'Quinn officiating.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  The arrangements are under the care and direction of Nassau Funeral Home, 541720 US-1, Callahan, Florida 32011. 904-879-1770.
