Sherry Lee
Stephens
Jan 27, 1948 — Apr 20, 2023
Sherry Lee Stephens (75) passed from this life into the loving arms of her Saviour on April 20, 2023, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Pembroke, Kentucky, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and then Atlanta, Georgia, where she met her husband, John Stephens, Jr. They were married 56 years when he passed away in 2021.
She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, beloved mother of five girls, and doting Nana to thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four (and counting) great-grandchildren, and cherished friend.
Among her varied professions were teacher, preschool administrator, administrative assistant, and business owner. Her favorite job was driving a semi-truck cross-country with her husband as this gave them the opportunity to travel all over the United States together.
She was very creative and enjoyed sewing, crafts, quilting, scrapbooking, baking, cooking, fishing, camping, singing, and writing. Many late nights were spent playing card games with her family and she was especially hard to beat at UNO. Her home was always filled with an abundance of love, laughter, music, and good food.
Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life. Her kind and generous spirit was a wonderful witness for Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church of Callahan and counted her fellow members among her dearest friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Lee, Sr. of Callahan, Florida; her beloved husband, John W. Stephens, Jr.; daughter, Shon Allen; and great-grandson, Wyatt Bernal.
She is survived by her grateful daughters Carrie Castleman, Amy (Bill) York, Stephanie (Ray) McGuire, and Rachel Cook; thirteen grandchildren; Twenty-four+ great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church of Callahan.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church of Callahan with Pastor Adam Pierce officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM that afternoon at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia, with her cousin, Tom Stephens, pastor of Amboy Baptist Church, officiating.
The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care of the nursing staff and doctors of the CVICU unit at UF Health Jacksonville and the staff of Community Hospice Douglas Center at Baptist Medical Center Downtown Jacksonville during the final days of her life.
This tribute above was prepared by Sherry's loving family.
