Childress – Ruth Lillian Childress, age 91, of Callahan, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. She was born to the late Joseph Christian and Annie Trumble Christian on June 22, 1933, in Newport News, Virginia. Known for her feisty spirit and candid nature, Ruth made a significant impact through her work with the Parks & Recreation Department, where she dedicated herself to influencing the lives of many young adults. She was a passionate reader who cherished the opportunity to travel and embrace life fully. Ruth's legacy is marked by her vibrant personality and her commitment to her family, leaving a lasting imprint on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be remembered for her unwavering honesty and her zest for life, which remained undiminished throughout her years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis Childress; siblings, Juanita, Vernall, Dolores and Jerome.

Ruth leaves behind her daughters, Connie (Clement) DeLarge, Tammy Long; brother, Joseph Christian, Jr.; grandchildren, LaQuesa Long, James Preston, Tawana (Nathaniel) Farahkhan, Geimi (Jimmy) Chism; a host of great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
