Obituary

Gordon - Ronald "Ronnie" Gordon went home to be with Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 7, 2023.  He was born on July 5, 1946, in Dinsmore, Florida to Thurman Gordon and Gloria Hoewischer Mercer, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Jessie Mercer.

Ronnie attended Paxon High School and later received his GED.  In his early 40's, Ronnie earned his EMT, paramedic, and firefighter certifications, making him the oldest person at that time to attend the Jacksonville Fire Academy.  He worked at Nassau County Fire/Rescue and Century Ambulance. Ronnie served as Fire Chief for the Callahan Volunteer Fire Department before taking the position with Nassau County Fire/Rescue.  He retired as a paramedic at the age of 62 after having a stroke.

Ronnie was married to the love of his life, Lynn Lewis Gordon, and they just celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary on November 3, 2022, by renewing their wedding vows, officiated by Ronnie's Uncle Willard, who officiated their wedding in 1972, at the church where their wedding was held, Live Oak Baptist in Callahan, Florida. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren and being called Papa.  Though he hasn't been able to go for a few years, Ronnie loved to fish.  He could sit there and catch nothing all day and would be just as happy as if he had caught a mess load of fish.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his father; mother; stepfather; sister, Susan Mercer; son-in-law, Waco Renshaw; grandfather, Tracy Hoewischer; grandmother, Edith Hoewischer; grandfather, Artemus Gordon; grandmother, Lillie Gordon; grandfather, Homer Mercer; grandmother, Nettie Mercer.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Lynn Gordon; son, Ronald (Pamela) Gordon, II; daughter, Wendy Renshaw; grandchildren, Zachary Gordon, Zoe Gordon; brother, Shelton (Jeanette) Mercer; sisters, Kathy Mercer Watts, Carolyn Mercer Townsend, Carol Gordon Cook; brother-in-law, Wayne (Sharon) Lewis; sister-in-law, Pam Johnson; and numerous nephews and nieces.
