Obituary

Michael "Mike" Alan Murphy, 66, of Hilliard, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 31, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on September 16, 1952, to Fred and Elizabeth Murphy, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Panama Park, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and was a member of the class of 1970.

On June 16, 1972, he married the love of his life, his "Little Bride", Carolyn Hodges Murphy. You would rarely ever see one without the other because they truly were best friends. They loved spending time together. Anyone who knew Mike & Carolyn would tell you that they had something extremely special, a relationship that very few married couples are ever lucky enough to experience, a true love story.

More than anything, he loved Jesus and spending time with his family, immediate, extended and chosen. He got up every morning to do his devotion and spend time with the Lord. When he wasn't working, he made sure to spend as much time with his family as he could. Holidays, vacations, oyster roasts, playing canasta, birthdays, family reunions, he was always there with a smile on his face. He took great pride in raising his two children Justin and Rachel. He demonstrated by example and instilled in them a strong work ethic; teaching them how to do so many things, big and small. Being "Pop" to his grandchildren was such a special gift. He enjoyed watching them grow up and play on the farm, teaching them about farm life and so many valuable life lessons. He loved supporting his children and grandchildren in their different activities and watching them accomplish their goals. He felt very blessed to also have two great grandchildren.

He followed in his Daddy and brothers' footsteps to become a Journeyman Wireman. He graduated from the Jacksonville Electrical Training Alliance and was initiated into IBEW Local #177 in 1974 and received his Florida Master Electrical License in 2002. He worked out of many Locals throughout the country and for several contractors locally. He worked as a Project Manager and with his tools, the most recent with Cogburn Brothers Electric. He was meticulous and a hard worker. No job was too big or too small, he enjoyed every minute of it. He has also worked at Callahan First Baptist Church, where he was a member.

His happy place was on their farm and he never stopped working to make it perfect. From working on his tractor, using the golf cart to carry his tools from one project to the next, to designing new inventions to make his work more efficient and of course taking care of the cows and chickens. He loved doing anything with his hands. Throughout his life he enjoyed hobbies ranging from scuba diving, to wood working, welding, hunting and traveling. Most recently, he spent all his free time planning and building their new home after their house fire in 2017. He loved the entire process from designing to building it, unfortunately, he was unable to see it through to completion.

His legacy will live on through his children Justin (Wendy) Murphy, Rachel (Brad) Hughes, grandchildren Kennedy (Kody) Barnes, Kerigan (Dalton) Wildes, Sophie Pittman, Bryson and Rhilyn Hughes and his great grandchildren Harley Reynolds and Kayden Wildes. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Patra) Murphy, sister Betty Murphy and sisters-in-law Sharon Murphy, Vivian (Lynwood) Holley, Faye Farris and brother-in-law Charles Haspel, nephews, nieces, many other loved ones, dear friends and electrical brothers.

He has been reunited in Heaven with his parents and his brother, Ron Murphy, his in-laws N.W. and Elsie Hodges, sister-in-law Eunice Haspel and nephew Neal Tarkington.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 5th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Nassau Funeral Home in Callahan. Services will be held at Callahan First Baptist Church Friday, September 6, 2019, at 11:00am with Brother Lynn Hyatt and Brother Todd Carr officiating.
