Smolder- Marina Smolder "Nanu", age 89, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on December 19, 2023. She was born on January 21, 1934, to the late Arthur Leonard Lindgren and Ethel Softly Nurse in South Shields, England. Marina met the love of her life and late husband, Delmer Kenneth Smolder in England while he was stationed there during his enlistment in the United States Air Force. They met at a dance, which was something they both loved to do. They exchanged vows and became husband and wife on October 30, 1954. After his retirement from the United States Air Force, they settled in Jacksonville, Florida.

After Delmer's passing in 1996, Marina stayed very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints until her health wouldn't allow her to. Marina was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking English foods. She never met a person she didn't like and loved helping others celebrate their birthday by always baking a cake or a pie for them. Marina also enjoyed making crafts and loved telling her childhood stories but more than anything she loved spending time with her family, who she loved dearly.

Marina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin sons, Steven and Russell Smolder; and sister, Betty Elliott.

Marina leaves behind her sister, Lillian Bennett; daughter, Virginia (Johnnie) Freeman; grandchildren, Amanda (Keith) Traver, Shane (Toni) Freeman; great grandchildren, Elisha Andrews, Madison Traver, Alyssa Traver, Ian Traver, Skyler Freeman, and Mason Freeman; great-great grandchild, Bexleigh Andrews.

A Graveside Service for Marina will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Evergreen Cemetery Gate 5 with Hubert W. Chapman, Sr. officiating.
