Born in Waycross, Georgia in 1941, long-time Nassau County resident, Lynda Petree, peacefully went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. She was 84.

Lynda was the eldest of 7 children of the late Bill and Edith Flynn. She was also the wife of the late John D. Petree of Callahan, Florida.

As a founding member of Gray Gables Baptist Church, she served her church in several capacities over her lifetime, including being the church's first organist and pianist, as well as being a member of the choir for many years.

After growing up in Dinsmore and Jacksonville, Florida, Lynda spent her high school years in Callahan, Florida, and was a graduate of the Callahan High School class of 1959.

Lynda earned her bachelor's degree in education from Jacksonville University, and went on to impact many lives during her career as a school teacher at Fernandina, Victory Christian Academy, West Nassau High School and Hilliard Middle-Senior High School.

Lynda Petree is survived by her son, Jonathan Petree; daughter, Jennifer Petree Lathrop; three grandsons; and three granddaughters. In addition, three of her siblings remain, including Bob Flynn, Lilah Sikes, and Carolyn Williams, along with many nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Lynda's Life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gray Gables with Pastor Cody Page officiating. Interment will follow at Jones Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Nassau Funeral Home.
