Obituary

Royal - Lenery Monroe Royal, age 75, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 15, 2020 after a very short battle with cancer. Monroe was born in Panama City, Florida on November 1, 1944.  Affectionately known as "Papa Royal" to everyone who knew him, Monroe was a devoted husband, daddy, papa, son, brother, and friend.

Monroe was one of the hardest working men a person could know. He began his career with General Motors and retired in 1997 with 30 years of service. He also loved and was devoted to his country by serving in the United States Army and retiring with 30 years of service as a security policeman with the Florida Air National Guard.  Monroe also served as part of Operation Desert Storm. In addition, Monroe was also a servant in his community.  He was an active member of over 50 years and Past Worshipful Master of Callahan Lodge No. 32 F.&A.M. and a member of the Callahan Order of the Eastern Star No. 154.  He was also a longtime member of the Morocco Shrine.  Most importantly, above any career or community service, Monroe was a servant of Jesus Christ, because he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in the early 1960's. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida.

Monroe was a loving husband and family man and married the love of his life Martha, on December 1, 1967.  Monroe and Martha have had numerous adventures through the years, many including traveling with their family and friends and also with his beloved 1955 and 1957 Chevrolet's. Monroe loved to travel and see the world and tell his grandchildren of his many adventures while serving in the military.

Monroe is survived by his adoring wife of 52 years, Martha Singletary Royal, daughters Michele (Brian) Shrum and Melinda Royal, grandchildren Elizabeth (Taylor) Crawford, Makayla Royal and Daniel Ward, his sister   Mary Louise Personette, and numerous extended family. Monroe was preceded in death by his father, David Royal, his mother Edna Lee Donn Royal Wells and stepfather George Wells; brother Henry Clifford Royal and sister in law Joann Royal; sisters Martha Teston and brother in law Willie Teston, sister Marie Norris (Austin) and brother in law Alan Personette, Sr.
