Obituary

Wilson - Joy Violet Durham Wilson, age 75, passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on April 26, 2023, while napping at her home in Kingsland, Georgia.

Joy was born March 4, 1948, to the late Margie and Edward Durham. She grew up in the small town of Portia, Arkansas before joining the United States Army, where she met her loving husband, Dolphus Gene Wilson, son of the late Dolie and Doc Wilson. They eventually settled down in the Callahan, Florida area to raise their two children, Dolphus "Hotrod" Gene Wilson Jr. and Connie Jean Wilson Griffin.

Out of all her professions, Joy took most pride in being a homemaker for her family that she loved so abundantly. She was a phenomenal cook, gardener, interior decorator, mentor, and caretaker. Joy played a large hand not only in the upbringing of her children, but of her grand-and great-grandchildren. She took it a step further and claimed many more as her own. Joy was everyone's mom, mother, nan, grandma- related or not. That is how freely she was able to love others and treat them as family.

Joy's love and service for others was undoubtedly fueled by her love and service for the Lord. She would take time every day to study her Bibles or sing her favorite hymns. She prepared herself vigorously for her seat next to the Lord's throne in heaven.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her son, Hotrod, her parents, and siblings.

Joy leaves behind her children, Connie Griffin, Andy (Cherree) Griffin, Sunshine (Alex) Lang; grandchildren, Chelsy (Robert) Griffin, Gina Wilson, Amber (Anthony) Griffin, Ridge (Skylar) Lambert, Cody Trantham, Tiffany (Chance) Hayes, Dalton Trantham, AllieMay Griffin; great-grandchildren, Tye Wilson, David Lambert, Braelynn Hayes, Summer Wilson; siblings, Edward (Kay) Durham, Billie Wilson; close family friends, the Lloyd family; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

This tribute above was prepared by Joy's loving family.

A Graveside Service for Joy will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service inside the church.
