Joseph Harold Downs, 69, went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 15, 2020, at Community Hospice of Fernandina Beach, surrounded by his loving daughter, sister and wife. Joe was a resident of Callahan since 1992 where he worked as a carpenter/cabinet maker whose passion was working with wood and turning it into a strong beautiful design. He was always ready to help anyone at any time and was loved by many friends and neighbors who enjoyed his intense sense of humor and quick witty comebacks. Joe will surely be missed by all who knew him.

Joe is predeceased by his son Michael Joseph Downs; parents Joseph Chester Downs and Anna J. Spaulding Downs; and sisters Delorse Vaughan and Sheila Bass.

Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christine Callaway Downs; daughter Sherry Lynn Downs (Larry R.) Hogan; sisters Faye of Lake City, Phyllis Taylor and Doris Perry, both of Callahan; as well as eight loving grandchildren, Chandler, Miranda, Tylor, Haylie, Kansas, Madison, Layla and Luke; one great-grandchild Chase; and many nieces and nephews.
