Obituary

Johnson - Helen Johnson left this life on Sunday, March 24, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife and caring mother, with an infectious laugh, positive attitude, and deep love for all of her family. Helen's fight against cancer was a valiant one and an inspiration to so many. She always had a smile and could frequently be seen walking outdoors, living her life to the fullest. The oldest of three children, Helen was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 4, 1944, to Wanda and Jim Milligan. She grew up in Callahan, Florida right next door to her future husband, Alan Johnson. Helen graduated from Callahan High School and attended Georgia Southern, where she majored in Education. In June 1965, Helen married her sweetheart, Alan Johnson, and had two children, Ken and Ron. She was a well-loved science teacher in Nassau County for 35 years and was a lifelong member of Callahan Methodist Church. Helen supported her sons by always attending their sports events and cheering them on through t-ball, basketball, and football. She loved to walk! Helen could be seen walking up and down Stratton Road all the time - even up to a few weeks ago, you could find her walking in Ewing Park. She was always laughing and loved colorful hats and handbags and fun jewelry! Anyone who knew Helen could tell when she was in the grocery store because you could hear her signature laugh from anywhere in Winn Dixie! She enjoyed driving her new blue Mustang, Sunday afternoon NASCAR, listening to Elvis, reading a book, and traveling all over the US and Europe. Helen truly lived a rich and fulfilling life. She is preceded in death by her father, Jim Milligan and her mother, Wanda Argo Milligan.

Helen is survived by her husband, Alan Johnson; sons, Ken (Robin) Johnson, Ron Johnson; brother, George (Charlene) Milligan; sister, Claudia Milligan; niece, Crissy (Chris) Spicer; grandchildren, Tyler (Baleigh) Johnson, Austin Johnson, Emily (Bailey) Moore, Ben Johnson; great-grandchildren, Judah and Sammy Johnson; sister-in-law, June Goforth; brother-in law, Randy Johnson, as well as many nephews and nieces.

The tribute above was prepared by Helen's loving family.
