Franklin Delano
Shiver
Mar 3, 1933 — Aug 14, 2019
Franklin Delano Shiver a long-time resident of Callahan, Fl. passed away August 14, 2019.
Born in Fitzgerald, Ga. March 3rd 1933, Frank was the 3rd child of 13. He lied about his age to join the army in 1949, at 16, to keep from picking cotton in the hot fields of south Ga. Frank was a soldier in the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1952 due to a battle wound. Frank married Betty Lucille Knott in September 1952. Shortly after their marriage, Frank accepted Christ. He and Betty moved to Springfield Mo. in 1958 to attend Baptist Bible College where both graduated in 1961.
From there, the Shivers moved to Korea in 1963 where they started four indigenous churches (from whiich 50 churches were planted), a Bible college and saw numerous souls come to know the Lord throughout the four years of their ministry there. Bro. Shiver's passion was spreading the gospel.
The Shivers moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1968 where he accepted a pastorate position at Arlington Heights Baptist Church. It later relocated to the Regency area of Jacksonville and changed the name to Regency Baptist Temple, where he served as pastor until 1989. During the next 30 years Bro. Shiver was involved in evangelistic crusades all across America and overseas. During this time, he traveled & spoke some 40 weeks out of every year raising over 1 million dollars for foreign missions, until his death. The last church at which he spoke, from a wheelchair, was on June 9th of this year, with over 400 in attendance. Bro. Shiver loved what he did! He loved people and wanted to be a mentor to the young preachers that were just starting their ministry. Bro. Shiver wanted to leave behind a legacy, not of what he did, but of what Christ did through him.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Connie Bacom, brothers: Edward, L.E., Eugene, Bill, Jimmy, Floyd, Joe & David, sisters Dorothy Sexton & Patricia Simpson.
