Tanner – Charlie Finch Tanner, Jr., age 81, of Callahan, Florida passed away June 25, 2022.  He was born on July 10, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida to Charlie Finch Tanner, Sr. and Eula Tanner.  Charlie moved to Callahan, Florida when he was a young child.  After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. Charlie started out working as an electrician and worked his way up to becoming a Chief Master Sergeant.  He retired in 1995 after 37 years of service. At one point, Charlie was the President of the Callahan Lions Club and was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Callahan.  He played a huge role in the community.  In his spare time, Charlie loved doing things outdoors such as golfing and fishing, especially in the King Fish Tournament.  Charlie also loved the Florida Gators and considered himself a hardcore fan.  He will always be remembered for giving the best hugs, his calming presence and for his favorite saying "Be Calm."   Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney Howell; brothers, Donald Tanner and Oscar Tanner; mother of his children, Bessie Tanner.

Charlie leaves behind his loving wife, Beverly Tanner; children, Bonnie (Richard) Walden, Susan Miller, Kevin Kirkpatrick, Chuck Tanner, Kim (John) Lester, Kelly Peacock; sisters, Florence Maynor, Kathleen (Warren) Simpson, Janet Highfill; numerous grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Nassau Funeral Home with Pastor James Conner officiating.  Interment will follow at Jones Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  The arrangements are under the care and direction of Nassau Funeral Home, 541720 US-1, Callahan, Florida 32011, 904-879-1770.
