Wheat - Billy Sam Wheat, age 76, of Callahan, Florida passed away on September 3, 2023, from a lengthy battle of kidney and heart disease. He was born on July 11, 1947, to Samuel Olin Wheat and Willie Barnett in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Billy loved his Lord and Savior first and foremost. He also loved his family and spending time with them. Billy's love for sports lead to him umpiring baseball for many years and was an avid fisherman. Many people knew him from delivering food from chicken houses here in Callahan.  He sang with the Heavenly Heights quartet for several years and everybody knew he loved his dog, Buster. Billy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Wheat of 48 years; sister, Bertha Bauer; children, Kelly (Ruthie) Wheat, Valorie (Danny) Beam, Melanie Wheat Willis; grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Corey (April), Kevin (Bethenny), Amber (Jeff), Kayla (Ryan); 8 great grandchildren including Brian Wheat; son-in-law, Mike Willis; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Billy's Life will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gray Gables with Pastor Cody Page officiating.  Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
